Schooled

by Paul Vangelisti

As in scholar me collar me
accustomed mornings to dwell
on the unfinished speechlessness of
very many days not unlike this
without apparent reason or motive
but a lifetime in front of a certain window
willfully drifting in a favorite chair
never in any conspicuous position
nothing noticeably out-of-the-ordinary
from any other middle-aged semi-reclusive
polite friendly enough male or female
suspected of devoting much of their time
to some rather nebulous activity which
only most accidentally resembles writing.
